New website for Nobs GmbH

Nobs GmbH is a long-established carpentry shop in the Bernese Seeland region that has been crafting high-quality custom windows, doors, coat racks, and furniture since 1904. Although the company launched a new website just three years ago, it no longer reflected the full range of products and services the company offers. It was clear to Nobs GmbH’s marketing manager that action was needed.

At the end of 2024, Irene Nobs, the marketing manager at Nobs GmbH, contacted me and asked me to take a close look at the carpentry shop’s current website and come up with suggestions for improvements. I eagerly agreed and got to work right away.

From Analysis to Screen Designs

Since we hadn’t worked with a carpentry client before, my first step was to take a close look at some competitor websites. This gave me a good sense of how other carpenters present themselves online. I used this as the basis for developing the website concept for Nobs GmbH.

In the second step, I analyzed the current website of Nobs GmbH to familiarize myself with its structure and offerings. I also met with Irene Nobs to gather additional important information about their services, future relevant topics, and target audience, among other things.

In the third step, I developed the website concept and created the first mockups for the new website. In doing so, I defined which content is relevant, how it should be structured, and what the navigation will look like.

As a final step, I created the mockups* for the new website. The mockups make the website tangible, allowing the client to better visualize what the website will look like in the future. If you’re unfamiliar with the term “mockup,” you can read about it here:

What is a mockup?

A mockup is a realistic, visual representation of a design or product that shows what it might look like in practice. For example, a design on a T-shirt, on packaging, or in an app. It serves to present ideas clearly and often looks like a finished product, even though it is only a simulation.

Optimization Recommendations as the Starting Point for a New Website

When I presented the optimization recommendations and mockups for the new website to the executive team and the marketing manager, they were thrilled and eager to implement the suggestions. Since the current website was based on WordPress and I would have had to completely overhaul and rebuild the entire site, I suggested to the decision-makers that I could rebuild the website using HubSpot (the cost would be roughly the same). I did this for reasons of efficiency and security, and with the prospect of additional HubSpot tools (newsletter, blog, etc.) that could be utilized in the future. Another key factor in favor of HubSpot was the integration of a booking system for the new meeting room, which Nobs GmbH wanted to rent out to companies and organizations.

Nobs GmbH was eager to integrate a new offering on the website. Specifically, the carpentry shop had built a beautiful meeting room that they wanted to sublet to external parties at a fair price. With HubSpot, we had the perfect system at our disposal. This is because the HubSpot calendar tool allows the meeting room to be conveniently booked online.

A Streamlined Website with a Logical Structure

I reduced the number of web pages from 15 to 8. The structure and navigation were completely redesigned and partially renamed so that the visitor’s customer journey makes sense and they can quickly find the content that interests them. We’ve seamlessly integrated the beautiful images from Nobs GmbH—some of which were taken by a carpenter—into the website, giving them enough space to make an impact. The website looks modern and uncluttered and conveys the necessary emotions. I am very satisfied with and proud of the final result. Together with Irene (who handled the content, images, and testing), I managed to deliver the project on time and with high quality. The website now perfectly represents the current offerings, the long-standing craftsmanship, and the passion of the Nobs carpentry shop.

Testimonial from Irene Nobs:
Marketing Manager, Nobs GmbH

After Sarah’s thorough analysis and clear presentation of areas for improvement during our initial consultation, it quickly became clear to us that our website needed a complete redesign. Sarah provided excellent support throughout the design and implementation of the new site. Thanks to her structured approach and keen sense of design, a simple online presence has been transformed into a modern, comprehensive website that authentically and contemporarily reflects our craft and our offerings.

I would like to thank the entire team at Nobs GmbH for this project and for the trust they placed in me. It was an exciting project, and I greatly appreciated working with them as equals. Now I’m eager to see the market’s response and wish the woodworking shop many future projects.
